Kentucky freshman centerfielder Austin Cousino has been selected to play for the USA Collegiate National Team, UK’s first member of the USA National Team since John Wilson in 1999, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.  

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Cousino is the first Wildcat to earn a spot on the prestigious USA Collegiate National Team since Chad Green played for the USA in the 1996 Olympic Games and John Wilson played for the national team in 1999 in Japan. The 5-foot-10, 178-pound centerfielder becomes just the third player in program annals to join Team USA.

The 10U NC Vipers coached by Keith Grabowski lost a heart breaker 8-7 to the Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs in the championship of the Puritas Early Bird. The Vipers and Diamond Dawgs both entered the championship game with perfect 3-0 records both earning 3 straight mercy rule victories. The teams then waged an epic battle with the Vipers taking a 6-2 lead after 3 innings behind the stellar pitching of Ben Bliss. The Dawgs rallied late to take the lead mixing timely hitting with some shoddy Viper defense setting up an exciting finish. Down 8-6, and down to their last strike, Gip Conroy blasted a long triple into right center which was followed by a RBI bunt by Aidan Grabowski. With Aidan at second base, down 8-7, Peyton Wilson put a nice swing on a 2 strike pitch flying out to medium deep right field to end the game. Th Dawgs are a respected travel program and this game was a great game between two great programs.

The 14U North Coast Vipers coached by Tim Mudrock won the championship of the Bring the Heat Tournament besting Northern Ohio Baseball 7-6. The Vipers received outstanding pitching from Max Carevic and Nick DeJesus with DeJesus throwing 3 scoreless innings after the Viper defense settled in and played solid the final 3 innings. The entire team contributed offensively. The Vipers earned a berth in the final after a mercy rule victory over the Middlebugh Heights Titans while Northern Ohio smashed the Strongsville Stallions.
