Ryan Vargo, a Class of 2013 prospect out of Clearview High School has been receiving attention from several colleges because of his projectable frame as a right-handed pitcher. Vargo stands 6'2, 170-pounds and has been working hard over the winter to add more weight.

Vargo said he started receiving attention from schools at the conclusion of his summer club¹s season. When asked what schools interested him most, he listed Miami, Dartmouth, Siena, Ohio U, and Akron as his top choices.

At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, Adrian Calez won’t be the biggest prospect on the field. But, in baseball, how much does that really matter? For Calez, he doesn’t need to look far for examples of talented, undersized prospects that have moved on and excelled at the next level. His older brothers, Adam and David, both played college baseball at Cincinnati and Walsh respectively. Now, the talented, left-handed pitcher from Lorain is putting himself on the map.

PBR: Why did you choose Siena Heights?
Smith: It's a good fit, I really hit it off with Coach Kolasinski and Coach Mouch. I should be able to come in an be a productive part of the team right away. Having great coaches and the chance to play right away was very important to me and was a big part of my decision. The scholarship was nice also!

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Smith: To be honest, I was contacted by about a dozen schools, but I found Siena Heights so early, I wasn't really considering any other schools.

The North Coast Vipers will hold tryouts on Wednesday August 17th as follows: 9U to 13U 6:00 pm, 14U to 18U 7:30 pm and Saturday August 20th 9U to 13U 9:00 am and 14U to 18U 10:30 am. Both tryouts are weather permitting and will take place at the Oberlin College baseball field.
